About

Andrew Hauge furniture was founded in August 2000 and since then, I have been involved in designing and building a diverse range of free standing contemporary furniture mainly for private clients, but also for shops and galleries. I am a member of the Sussex Guild of craft people.

I have an English and Danish - American background and my work is coloured by this heritage. I am influenced by European and in particular, Scandinavian modernism, the Shakers and the English Arts and Crafts movement. I aim to translate the values of these movements into a contemporary style avoiding over decoration or elaboration but focusing on proportion and strong uncluttered lines to produce functional elegant and durable pieces that will sit well with both new and old furniture.

Timber is a miraculous and renewable resource. I aim to respect this and the ecosystems that our forests support by building quality long lasting products from wood harvested from sustainable managed forests. This normally means Forest Stewardship Certified sources. To this same end I use water based glues and natural oil or beeswax finishes.

I have a developing range of standard products to choose from which I hope you find interesting. You may also consider commissioning me to make a bespoke piece of furniture for you.
